One of my favorite films of all time!  So beautiful, both visually and emotionally.  Jeunet is a master stylist, but also a master humanist.  By the way, the Cannes film festival rejected the film and Jeunet was crushed ... and then it went on to become one of the most beloved and highest grossing french films of all time.  Fundamental question the film asks is what can we do to ameliorate the lives of those around us better, and then how does that make our own lives better as well.  (Just realized that the word “ameliorate” is similar to Amelie - did everyone else already get that?)

I did not realize the connection between “Amelie” and “ameliorate.” I like that.

I’m very surprised that this was rejected by Cannes. Stunned, actually. It’s so special. I love this movie.
